Bayennale, Oakland CA exhibition, seeks participants for Summer 05
Friday, July 22, 2005 - Sunday, August 7, 2005 Save the Date - Get Involved Bayennale: Bay Area International Biennial Arts Festival.
The Bayennale is an international art exhibition sponsored by the Port of Oakland, under the guidance of Lowell Darling, Bill Allen and instigators including, The Lab of San Francisco and Marianne Wagner-Simon of Berlin. Conceptually, the Bayennale is an artist driven, high-energy, organically formed, Bay Area wide, international, biennial arts festival, modeled after the London and Berlin Biennales.
The 16-day event, running from July 22 to August 7, 2005, will include a broad range of local, national and international visual and performing artists. Bay Area art galleries, museums, public spaces, vacant buildings and temporary structures will serve as event locations. Volunteers will facilitate matches between artists and potential sites through an online database of participants and direct introduction by artist instigators.
If you are an artist, a curator, or have access to venues, gallery or boarding space, or simply want to lend a hand, we invite you to participate. Bayennale is an all-volunteer event. Please join our email list to keep informed about the Bayennale.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
The One Minute Film & Video Festival is now accepting submissions for the
2005 programme. We are looking for films and videos which explore the theme
INTERSECTIONS in exactly one minute. Beyond this, there will be no
restrictions. Interpret the word 'Intersections' as you will. Please visit
our web site at www.minutefilmfest.com for more information, submission
guidelines and deadlines.
The One Minute Film and Video Festival, founded in 2003, came about as the
result of a dare among lapsed-filmmaker friends in Toronto. The idea was to
complete a project based in imposed time and subject-matter restrictions to
make it easier to get motivated. The One Minute Film & Video Festival is an
opportunity for filmmakers, from professional to amateur, to create and
screen new work based around a common theme. The strict time restriction
puts a premium on creativity, while making the projects (reasonably) easy to
accomplish in a short period of time.
The festival will be held at the Bloor Cinema, Toronto, in November 2005.

THE INSTITUTE FOR THE FUTURE OF THE BOOK announces "Born Digital," a series of competitions that will address the conceptual, compositional, and structural issues of digital expression. Our first competition, "Born Digital 1: Illumination," is inspired by the close relationship between text and image represented in the tradition of the illuminated manuscript.
To enter, submit a single illustrated page that exploits the unique possibilities of the digital medium while preserving the relationship between text and image. Explore the notion of a "video snapshot." Animate an image or a text. Create an interactive or networked illumination that responds to the reader, connects readers to one another, links to other elements within a text, or changes in response to outside sources such as the Internet. The deadline for entries is May 1, 2005. One grand-prize winner will be awarded $1,000 and two honorable mentions will receive $500. With the creator's permission, winning entries will be featured on our web site and will become part of a critical dialogue hosted by the Institute for the Future of the Book.
Guidelines for Submission:
Submit a single page of illustrated/illuminated text. If the page exists within a website, a book, or a document, indicate which page you would like us to consider.
Include a title, caption, or figure heading for the illustrated page.
In a separate text document or in the space provided on the entry form, give a brief description of your project (no more than 250 words). Explain how the project uses the digital medium to "illuminate" its subject matter.
Works can be submitted via entry forms on our website: www.futureofthebook.org
