Call for Nominations - NUCA Un - Collectable Artists
NUCA is a brand new nation-wide affiliation connecting those who gravitate
towards ephemeral projects, participatory experiences, illegal art actions,
and activities that oddify everyday life. Some members make unwieldy
installation projects, while others alter
billboards, project images in abandoned spaces at night, or exchange ideas
rather than objects. Some simply make dead ugly paintings that would never
sell. Because such artworks are often fiendishly tricky to document, they
seldom grace the columns of "recognised" publications. NUCA is building a
publicity machine of its own, so artists may exchange essential info about
their activities, collaborate on new projects, and connect with
Un-Collectable others.

The frankline furnace archive’s fund for performance art deadline
Supported by Jerome Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts, Franklin Furnace awards grants between $2,000 and $5,000 to performance artists, allowing them to produce major works anywhere in the State of New York. Artists from all areas of the world are invited to apply. Franklin Furnace has no curator; each year a new panel of artists reviews all proposals. We believe that this peer panel system allows all kinds of artists from all over the world an equal shot at presenting their work. Every year the panel changes, as the definitions of "emerging artist," "performance art" and "live art on the Internet" change, so if at first you don't succeed, try again. Questions? TWENTY-FOUR DOLLAR ISLAND
http://24dollarisland.net is a collaborative mapping project of local histories of Lower Manhattan. If you have an untold story or an image, it will take only a few easy steps to add it to the map. The small area south of Canal Street may well be the place with the highest density of history in the United States. Many historic events that took place here did not even make it to a plaque. This project is not a passive official map held between thumb and finger but a constantly changing online environment.
"Twenty-Four Dollar Island" is the place where you can contribute what you know about your local history. Here, in a few steps, you can become an historian or a cartographer. You can contribute your story, your history, your image of a site South of Canal Street- whether you witness important events and always wonder why you don't read about them or if you read about a story of local history that you think is overlooked.
A project created by Trebor Scholz while in residence at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

Overview
Artists Alliance, Inc./Alianza de Artistas (AAI), a community based
nonprofit organization, composed of artists from a broad spectrum of
national and artistic backgrounds, is pleased to announce two new
sessions for our Lower East Side Rotating Studio Program (LES-RSP/04)
and the availability of one Long Term Studio at 107 Suffolk Street.
Eight artists will be invited to participate in the Rotating Studio
Program, located in the vibrant and historically significant multi-
cultural neighborhood of the Lower East Side in Lower Manhattan. One
additional artist will be selected to participate in the Long Term
Studio Program. The studios are located within the former PS 160
which has been converted into a vital cultural center. Selected
artists will have the opportunity to interact and engage with the
more than 60 professional resident visual artists who currently
work in the cultural center. This program underscores AAI's
mission to support the careers of emerging and mid-career artists
working in all fields as well as hard-working artists who fall
outside the system. It also addresses issues about the scarcity of
space for the production and presentation of works of art. Lack of
workspace threatens the very core of cultural life in New York
City.
(Please review contract requirements for participation as a
member-artist in the Long Term Studio Program and for participation
in the Rotating Studio Program).

icolás Dumit Estevez seeks collaborators for Lower East Side food project.
Dear All:
I am developing a project entitled "Takeout" as part of the Artists Alliance Rotating Studio program. The piece consists of a performance/installation dealing with food, food preparation, eating, and cooking within the context of Lower East Side immigrant communities. I am currently working in partnership with the Artists Alliance and the Educational Alliance to invite collaborators to create dishes that examine their perception of "nationality" and national identity. The culmination of the project is a buffet installation at the Artist Alliance Space on Saturday, May 22, from 1 until 6 pm. At that time the dishes will be shared with a general audience as well as with those who collaborated in the project‚s creation.
For the duration of the project my studio will be entirely devoted to kitchen and dining-related items to be used by collaborators and by the public. I am seeking donations from Lower East Side residents of plates, cups, spoons, glasses, ladles, pots and pans, as well as decorative and other items.
If you or anyone you know is interested in cooking or in donating an item for the installation please let me know at your earliest convenience. I would appreciate it if you would forward this message to anyone you think might be a possible collaborator or donor. I have a small budget for food and ingredients.
Thank you,
Nicolás
