Artists association Galerija GT and FAMUL STUART School of Applied Arts (Ljubljana, Slovenia)

eu-stuart.si
EuropeanArtStudents'DigitalWorks
Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2005

complete info: http://www.eu-stuart.si

CALL FOR SUBMISSION:
DEADLINE:  June 27th 2005
(All works arrived on Famul Stuart address till 1 P.M. July 1st 2005 will be accepted.
If received later, the final date of the official postal stamp from June 27th 2005 is valid.)

SHORT INFORMATION

The second edition of EuropeanArtStudents'DigitalWorksExhibition (eu-stuart.si 2005/06) invites young artists to submit their work (video, animation, short film, open digital media) with Open theme or to participate in a Special theme category.

Theme CATEGORIES:
A. Special theme: Ljubljana (Maribor, Nova Gorica...)??? What (Who, Where) is that?
B. Open theme

ENTRIES:
Works of current art students and artists that have recently graduated (in years 2004 and 2005) are welcome. No entry fees.

AWARDS:
The eu-stuart.si event is not (and is not intended to become) a contest. First of all, it is a platform for communication among young artists, however in its start, as it works on extremely low-budget basis, we cannot afford to invite the participating artists to Ljubljana. We can only show their digital work. But to get a step further in the aim of actual mobility of people, we decided that the jury will select the best work from the Special theme submissions: “Ljubljana..." and the visitors of the exhibition on tour will choose "the winner of the public" (from both, the Special and the Open Theme).

A foreign winner will receive 3 days FREE stay in Celica Youth Hostel (http://www.souhostel.com/en/artists/index.html) in Ljubljana during the event Famul in Celica in year 2006. If the winner is a Slevenian resident, she or he will be invited to realise a short video or animation in the studios of Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts.

APPLICATION and DATES:
Application form can be found on http://www.eu-stuart.si
Application deadlines: Application forms and works should be received by 1 P.M. July 1st 2005 for final selection. The date of the official postal stamp (June 26th 2005) is valid if the work arrives later than July 1st.

The C4F3 at ISEA2006/ZeroOne
Reminder - Call For Proposals due Wednesday, June 1, 2005

Submissions accepted online ONLY at http://isea2006.sjsu.edu/C4F3/index.html

This is an invitation by the ISEA2006 Symposium and ZeroOne San Jose: A Global Festival of Art on the Edge to groups and individuals to submit proposals for an installation of augmented furniture,
audio/video/software installations and interactive artwork for The C4F3 (The Cafe) during the ISEA2006/ZeroOne festival from August 5-13, 2006.

The goal of The C4F3 is to create an active ambient space of augmented everyday objects that is not just an art gallery, a restaurant, or a chill space, but a new kind of project space where the whole environment has been rethought in terms of the capabilities of current technology. This Call for Proposals is an invitation to artists, designers and technologists to propose existing work for exhibition and/or use within the café and new projects that support these goals.

The Inter-Society for Electronic Arts (ISEA) is an international non-profit organization fostering interdisciplinary academic discourse and exchange among culturally diverse organizations and individuals working with art, science and emerging technologies.
ZeroOne San Jose is a milestone festival to be held biennially that makes accessible the work of the most innovative contemporary artists in the world. In 2006 it will be held in conjunction with the ISEA2006 Symposium.

Festival of EVENTS 'On Time'
September 1st - October 8th, 2005

A series of creative workshops, symposia and public presentations with a focus on intermedia artistic and art education activities on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the existence of the Klaster Foundation Bechyne

The 'On Time' festival, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Klaster Foundation, is a natural recapitulation, but more importantly a reflective bridge. It is the evaluation of the cooperation which has taken place and a challenge to discover new partnerships.

Among key themes that will be addressed figure the attempt to connect artistic and educational activities, intermedia approaches (stepping over the border of individual genres of art) and issues concerning the existence and management of learning centers.

The festival is comprised of a series of creative workshops, symposia, presentations, discussions and other accompanying activities. It encompasses a vast spectrum of artistic genres: fine art, performance, music, literature, stage design, architecture and their spontaneous or permanent interconnectivity. It also aspires to provide a space for artistic and scientific „creative encounters" of individuals from various fields (education, sociology, ecology...), by examining the approaches and means employed by artists, theoreticians, managers, architects, experts as well as novices...

For the public at large the festival is an opportunity to become acquainted with excellent however little known artistic projects and trends. A series of workshops led by acclaimed lecturers and the presentation of dozens of Czech and international artists will take place in the attractive location of a gothic monastery, its gardens and immediate surroundings.

Open Calls for participation of the 'resting workshop' and the 'cultural management'

Call for papers:
The body/technology–instrument/technology paradigm.

We invite papers from writers reflecting on sound in relation to the body/technology; from anyone who attempts to define and/or critically examine threshold conditions of instrument and performer; writers who are keen to challenge con- or discontinuities of instrument and performer, be it in the form of laptop improvisation, interactive sound environments, 3d cave installations, sonic architecture, or other performance situations.

In an era in which technology has impacted immensely on ways in which instrumental music is being performed, indeed in which the role of the instrument, if not notions of the instrument itself, have become radically altered, we want to examine the instrument’s position as well as the role of the performer.

The body/technology – instrument/technology coupling or decoupling is something that can be, and needs to be explored from various angles. Such discussion invariably leads us to think about what we consider an instrument to be in technologically mediated environments, in particular if we keep in mind that the word’s origin suggests notions of “instruction” (from Latin: instruere): who instructs or who/what is instructed by whom?

• Do we see the instrument as extension, retraction or subversion of the body?
• Is the instrument one that brings the body into existence, or one that denies bodily existence?
• What are the implications of technological environments on the instrument-performer relation?
• Does the body become re-figured and re-inscribed by technology?
These are only a few of the questions that may arise; other exploratory paths that elucidate aspects of the body/technology–instrument/technology paradigms are highly encouraged.

For this discussion papers may rejoice in the liminal, the erotic, or the incestuous, they may celebrate touch, if not the self-touch, and may move beyond notions of the instrument as extension of the body in performance.

Papers from disciplines as varied as music, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, biology, informatics or architecture will be of interest.

Abstracts of around 300 words should be sent to the guest editor by the 31st of July 2005.
Full papers will be due at the end of September 2005.

____________________________________________________________
Please note:
Papers are accepted only in English.

Submission of a paper to this journal will be taken to imply that it represents original work not previously published, that it is not being considered elsewhere for publication, and that if accepted for publication it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in any language, without the consent of the editors and publishers.

YOlk – call for International artists

(Important: Due to technical problems, please respond to this posting by e-mailing elainespeight@hotmail.com and not info@yolkart.org.)

Are you interested in working with a small artists’ collective based in Nottingham, UK, to develop and make an interactive artwork?

We are looking for individuals or artists groups: who make live art; who want to work with non-artists in their local community; who are interested in creating an artwork with group ownership, that engages a diverse audience.

This work will be sited on the NOW festival website (see www.beherenow.org.uk) and will have a live presence at the next NOW festival in Nov-Oct 2005. The locations for the live events will be local libraries in Nottingham and an international city. We are developing the digital side of the project with a web programmer.

What we want to make

- An interactive web-based work, which is used during a live event simultaneously in 2 libraries in different cities.
- A piece that plays with the idea of spies/ detectives, role-play and specific characters gathered from the live work.
- The digital space will function as a game; an imaginary space which pulls together fragments of real spaces in Nottingham and another international city.

Why libraries?

Libraries interest us as:

- Depositories of archives & stories
- Places of research and investigation
- Meeting places
- Places where you often meet strange and entertaining characters
- Places where certain behaviour is not allowed.

We are also interested in appropriating the role of librarians as part of the live event/ performance.

We want to develop a similar live event with the artist from an international city. (That’s you!) We are particularly interested in looking at the way libraries function in different countries, especially the question of who owns the history of a place.

We want the online space to be ‘physical’, a place to explore, and a game and archive in its own right.

For further information about Yolk, please see our website: www.yolkart.org (This site is currently under construction, but will be running soon. In the meantime you can request further information by emailing elainespeight@hotmail.com)

We want YOU to contribute to the development of the idea.
Please read the details below, and send expressions of interest including:
- Initial ideas about the project and how you would contribute to it
- Brief history of your work
- Images or references to websites with examples of previous work.

We want you to respond to the following questions as a starting point for the project:
- How are libraries used in your city?
- Who uses them?
- Is there Internet access in your library?
- Whose histories can be found in the library?

To: Yolk, 49 Harcourt Road, Nottingham, NG7 6PZ, England
Or email: elainespeight@hotmail.com
Please note, we cannot return any material sent by post.
