+++CALL FOR WORKS+++
Electro-acoustic pieces with video

In the past the Logos Foundation in Belgium has organised several electro-acoustic concerts. The Logos Foundation is a centre for new experimental music and audio arts and we wish to give our audience the opportunity to hear the latest electronic music.
In the following year we would like to organize several concerts with electro-acoustical pieces & video because we have noticed that recently more and more composers of electronic and electro-acoustic music have been collaborating with video artists.

Composers from all over the world are invited to send recent works. Works must be for SOUND AND VIDEO WITHOUT LIVE PERFORMERS or musicians. The works may be on DVD, Hi8 (8mm video) or any other video format playable on a PC. The duration of the separate pieces may not exceed 30 minutes. You may send as many works as you like.

First deadline (for a concert in september 2004): 15 july 2004
second deadline (for a concert in the beginning of 2005): 15 november 2004

Interdisciplinary Landscape

As interdisciplinary practitionners, we are nomads, traversing the borders
and boundaries of disciplines. As we travel, we challenge the parameters of
disciplines, creating new thresholds for dialogue. We are often defined by
the boundaries we break. How do we map ourselves as a community of
interdisciplinary practitioners and citizens within the new territory we have
created?

Join artists from across New England and around the world as they explore
interdisciplinarity and contemporary art practices at the first Goddard
College Interdisciplinary Artists Conference. This conference / retreat will
allow participants to expand their core art practices through a variety of
presentations, workshops, discussions, and restorative activities.

Based on a participatory model of learning, this event seeks to actively
question the notion of “expert and audience” by inviting all participants to
engage in dialogue as both artists and as citizens. Participants will be
encouraged to share their unique perspective, present and discuss their own
work, and benefit from the feedback of a supportive audience of peers.

For more information about the conference, to register, or for questions,
visit us at www.committingvoice.org, email klinep@goddard.edu, or call Paule

call for submissions

FUTURE SPECIES

Exhibition curated by David Liss, director of Museum of Canadian
Contemporary Art (MOCCA)

The call for submissions and proposals at Propeller Centre for the Visual
Arts is for artworks that address the broad-based theme of the future of our
species.

Given our increasingly intimate relationship with technology, experiments
with genetic modification, and the widespread introduction of chemicals and
pharmaceuticals into the food chain, it seems apparent that our species will
need to evolve and adapt physically in order to survive.

The 20th Century imagined man/machine hybrids, cyborgs and the
extraterrestrial. For the exhibition, taking place at Propeller in October
2004, the guest curator is seeking artworks in any media that thematically
speculate upon our appearance and physical characteristics several more
links along in the Darwinian evolutionary chart of natural selection;
post-post figurative, so to speak.

The resulting exhibition is related to a cycle of research, exhibitions and
projects developed by the guest curator, exploring cultural and artistic
speculations upon the future of the human condition. The first exhibition in
this series, titled Future Species, took place at the d.u.m.b.o. arts center
in Brooklyn, New York, from June 27th to August 10th, 2003. (see
www.dumboartscenter.org)

All media are welcome and the call is open to artists at the emerging or
advanced stages of practice.

To submit please send:

· 5-10 labelled slides of your work (do NOT send original artwork)
· List of submitted slides showing the title of the work, creation
date, dimensions and medium
· CV and artist's statement
· Self addressed stamped envelope (SASE) if you want your slides
returned
· Non-refundable submission fee of CAD $25. We will accept a cheque
payable to Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts, cash or money order.

Submission deadline May 31, 2004.

Impakt foundation

Impakt Online Commissions - theme Translation

Impakt would like to show six projects by artists who use the Internet as medium as a starting point for their work (net. art).

The Impakt foundation started in 1988 by organising the Impakt Festival in Utrecht, the Netherlands. At this festival Impakt presents its audience with the newest developments in the audiovisual arts, film, video, new media and music.

Impakt Online
Since 2003 Impakt expanded their terrain with Impakt Online. Impakt Online gives artists the opportunity to realise their net.art projects. Each year, Impakt Online selects six artists and supports them in accomplishing and presenting their net.art projects. Impakt deliberately chooses projects which use specific elements of the Internet. Next to projects that exclusively exist on the Internet, Impakt Online actively looks for projects which connect the Internet to the real world and vice versa.

During the past year Impakt Online has worked with three themes which were used as a starting point for the artists. Different artists have developed projects within these themes, some of these projects include Beadgee by Tamar Schori, E-bay Longing and the Inhabitants by Marika Dermineur.

Impakt Online 2004: Translation
Impakt Online has chosen the theme: 'Translation' for the projects that will be realised this year. In the world of the Internet, translation is a daily practice. It can be a computertranslation from Russian to English, from one programming language to another, or a transformation of data relating to physical and tangible occurences to virtual and digital data.

The intention of Impakt Online is to research in which matter translation plays a role for artists who produce art on the Internet, or make use of its structure.

The way in which artists make use of the Internet to develop its own aesthetics and means of translation is important for the realisation of the themes. Impakt Online wants to use the term translation to investigate the use of the Internet in a critical and fundamental way.

The practical implications of translation can take different forms. A possible form can be a translation between real and virtual worlds. These are projects in which elements from the real world are being translated to a virtual environment or vice versa. Of course a translation between virtual environments, (like translation of online user input) can also be a possibility. Translation of this tangible, often quantitative data between environments can lead to new points of view.
Another form can be the translation of more qualitative data, such as transferring exisiting cultural, aestethic or social themes, into various medial online formats.

Procedure
Since Impakt runs a tight schedule, we urge artists to hand in their proposals as soon as possible. Our deadline for submission has been set on juli 1st.

Only proposals that are relevant to the theme will be taken into account. Projects that have already been publicly presented are excluded from participitation.

A proposal has to consist of the following parts:
- an abstract of the concept. (200 to 400 words)
- a summary of the technical and productional plan. (200 words max.)
- a summary of the relation between the project and the theme 'translation' or one of the subthemes. (200 words max.)
- information about the phase the project is in at the moment, the steps which have to be taken to finishing the project, pertaining to the current project phase, and the estimated budget that is needed to finish it.

Please note that all proposals must be in English. The final project should also be in English unless of course the use of other languages is part of the concept of the proposed project.
