Subject: CALL FOR ARTISTS
Date: Thu, 30 Jun 2005 17:24:17 -0400

CALL FOR PERFORMANCE ART PROPOSALS (Open to all
NURTUREart Registry Artists):

The Williamsburg Gallery Association has been invited
to participate in PERFORMA05, a performance art
festival organized by PERFORMA, a new non-profit
organization. PERFORMA is the brainchild of RoseLee
Goldberg, whose definitive book, Performance Art: From
Futurism to the Present (1979 & 2000), translated into
eight languages, pioneered the study of performance
art. PERFORMA05 will run from November 3, 2005 through
November 20, 2005, and is being organized in
collaboration with a consortium of leading arts
presenters, independent curators, galleries and
museums.

There will be a specific night of coordinated events
taking place in the member galleries of the
Williamsburg Gallery Association; each gallery
including NURTUREart. has been invited to submit a
proposal for an evening of performance art. So we are
now calling for proposals from our Registry Artists.

One, or possibly more proposals (as appropriate,
depending on length, complexity, etc) will be selected
by a NURTUREart committee, and then NURTUREart will
submit a final program to Performa for approval and
inclusion in their festival.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION:

Please send a one to two paragraph proposal describing
your performance piece, including length. Please list
any special equipment needed for your performance.
Please also attach your resume.

Send all proposals to: karen@nurtureart.org with the
subject line: PERFORMA05

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: JULY 15

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Drive By Performance Series
Links Hall and Seep request proposals for site-specific work inside moving vehicles. Artists may be drivers, passengers, or instigators who are outside the car. Links Hall will serve as a taxi stand from which audiences can catch rides to experience each piece, but the real location will be both inside the car and simultaneously anywhere within driving distance. There is a possibility that the car doesn’t go anywhere. There is a possibility that the car drives to a specific place, or that it drives around in circles. Maybe the performance gets out of the car at a certain point, or maybe it is an event which is best viewed from the window of a speeding car. What is important is that proposals are centered around the car as a place and an idea.
Proposals should contain a 1-2 page overview, resume, and work sample (DVD, NTSC VHS, photos, slides, relevant notes, etc.) Also, please indicate the following: approximate length of piece (ideally 15 minutes to one hour), any equipment needed, whether you are able to provide your own car, whether the piece is repeatable, dates of availability (for November 2005). Audiences will be charged a small entry fee per ride to cover gas, and to compensate you for your work. While the aim is to explore radical aesthetic possibilities of the car, please keep in mind basic safety and feasibility on a limited budget.
Submissions from outside Chicago: We are open to proposals from anywhere, but unfortunately cannot provide travel expenses. We will secure informal accommodation for your stay in Chicago, and we will assist you in any way we can to secure funding from your own sources. Proposals from within driving distance of Chicago are especially welcome.
Drive By will be held on three Saturday afternoons: November 5/12/19, 2005. Please mail or drop off your proposal to Links Hall (3435 N. Sheffield, 2nd Floor, Chicago IL 60657) by August 8th, 2005. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope if you require any materials returned. Proposals will be reviewed and artists selected by Deva Eveland on behalf of the curatorial collaboration Seep. Queries may be emailed to seepart@aol.com

INFO: Cabaret Voltaire is the crossroads for new and innovative works
from the daring and ubiquitous talent community of Los Angeles.
The infamous Cabaret Voltaire gave birth to DADA in Zurich, 1916 by
the original Dadaists and was reborn on an artists kibbutz in
Israel in 1984 by Marcel Janco. This third and current inception of
Cabaret Voltaire is produced and formatted by actor-writer-playwright
Christian Jon Meoli and began in June 2003. Each edition of Cabaret
Voltaire features a mixed bill of a variety of performers.
Performances take place the third Thursday of every month and are
performed at The Steve Allen Theater in Los Feliz at The Center for
Inquiry West. With a devious presenting style and low-tech vibe,
Cabaret Voltaire brings exploratory and innovative works to the stage
and screen. New works are normally featured, exploring the ever
increasing boundaries of contemporary disciplines. Cabaret Voltaire
was created as a homage of sorts to the original Cabaret Voltaire of
Zurich 1916. We forge to give new artists opportunities to hone their
skills, as well as offering established artists a chance to test new
material and works-in-progress before an audience. Please visit
cabaretvoltaire.org for more information on past and future events.

Call for Submissions/Contributions for Image-Blog

This is a global call to cultural producers and activists to submit and
contribute photographs for an image-blog within the context of the
exhibition "Moving..On: Handlungen an Grenzen - Strategien zum
Antirassistischen Handeln" in the Neuen Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst
(NGBK) Berlin/Germany in August 2005.

We call on you to "arm" yourself with various forms of digital cameras (e.g.
mobile phone cams, web cams, photo/video cameras) to document signs of
incarceration and exclusion, of discrimination and hardship of migrants.
Please send those new or existing image files immediately via e-mail to
Moving_On_NGBK@yahoo.com.

The image-blog focuses on the subtle signs that are embedded in the urban
text structures: texts and signs, which have been manipulated in order to
create new/ different meanings, their semiotic chance interactions with
street life, or also signage and billboards which experience additional
meanings through their surroundings. The objective is to re-interpret,
re-frame and subvert everyday societal and cultural superficialities.

>From the submitted images, I will construct a subjective collage of
critically re-configured meanings. The goal of the image-blog is a daily
updated and global view into issues relating to migration. In addition, the
photographic image as a selective representation of reality is not only
suppose to document what is, but – enhanced by the re-compilation and
montage of individual pictures – also show in its semiotic capacity what
else is hidden beneath the surface.

Technical Aspects:

Image size: between 18x12 cm (7x5 inches) and 22.5x15 cm (9x6 inches)
Resolution: 72 dpi
File format: JPEG, PDF
File Size: no bigger than 700KB

E-Mail: Moving_On_NGBK@yahoo.com
