SHOPDROPPING OPEN CALL:

Deadline: November 1, 2005

Shopdropping is an ongoing project in which I alter the packaging of
canned goods and then "shopdrop" the items back onto grocery store
shelves.

Shopdropping strives to take back a share of the visual space we
encounter on a daily basis. Similar to the way street art stakes a
claim to
public space for self _expression, Shopdropping subverts commercial
space
and activities for artistic use.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am currently organizing an open call to create a large collaborative
Shopdropping installation.

Please submit all types of works on paper: photography, drawing,
painting, printmaking, computer printouts, etc.etc. but please no
cardboard,
heavyweight paper, or other "thick" surfaces that won't adhere easily
to the cans.

All submitted materials should be 4 inches by 9.5 inches. Please send
2 copies of each submission so that one set can be "shopdropped" into
grocery stores and another set can be displayed as a group project in a
gallery in NYC.

Also, please include $1 US per submission to help cover the cost of
buying canned goods. (I'm not making any money off of this but if I get
100 submissions that's 200 cans of beans.)

Please include your name, or alias with your submission. Please include
your email address with your package so that I can confirm that I
received your work, and keep you updated on how the project is going.

If you have any questions please let me know at ryan@relapsed.net

I look forward to hearing from you!
See http://www.shopdropping.net for more info and images of my past
installations.

Send all work to:

Fournos, Center for Digital Culture organizes in September which is the Month of Photography for Athens,  the event Capturing Utopia and invites creators to send their works [digital photographs and images] that have utopia as their theme.

The term utopia has been used in philosophy, art, literature, architecture even in politics to describe ideal situations that are impossible or very difficult to implement. These approaches may have a financial, political or social basis but in any case utopia is always strongly connected with an optimistic, idealistic or almost impossible perfection. The references to the utopia are innumerable, the most famous examples standing out are: Plato’s Republic, New Jerusalem by Augustine of Hippo, Utopia by Sir Thomas Moore [that first used the word utopia], New Atlantis by Francis Bacon, the Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Andromeda Nebula by Ivan Efremov and the Cloud Of Maggelan by Stanilav Lem.

Which are the most familiar forms of utopia for today’s world? Utopia is a temporal and spatial illusion that examines reality and transforms it. It is connected to the facts and the conditions of each period converting them to something higher, idealized. Today’s utopias are connected to contemporary technology and science, their fast development and their possibilities. They leave behind the images of ideal paradises and societies close to nature. They are inspired and they use material from the internet, the mobile and wireless technologies for new conditions of social and political co-existence. Other forms of utopia are shaped into virtual environments from the fields of creation and entertainment.

Fournos aims with this event to form in its venue a utopian environment as this is captured and expressed by digital images. Images that might be realistic or fake. Snapshots from real and virtual worlds. Utopian reflections inspired from the social, political and aesthetical environment or personal everyday moments. Comments, proposals and personal manifestations visualized will adjoin one another to describe the different identities of utopia today.

Images should be

- sent as attachments via email utopiacall@yahoo.gr or saved in a CD ROM by post at the address Fournos, Center for Digital Culture, 168 Mavromichali str, 11472, Athens Greece

- 72 dpi, 800É¥600 pixels, in jpg format

- accompanied by a title/ comment on the work, by the name of the artist, a small CV of his/her, and contact details.

- original works of the senders.

Only one work can be submitted per sender.

DEADLINE: 2 SEPTEMBER 2005

The selected works will projected in the venue of Fournos and will be hosted in a special designed page in Fournos webpage. The event will take place from the 18th till the 25th of September 2005.

We at www.sr.se/src warmly invite you
to participate in our autumn issue: "Limbo".

*Some definitions:

lim*bo 1 (lmb)
n. pl. lim*bos

1. often Limbo Roman Catholic Church The abode of
unbaptized but innocent or righteous souls, as those

coming of Christ.
2. A region or condition of oblivion or neglect:

3. A state or place of confinement.
4. An intermediate place or state.

Through this invitation we hope to find ourselves in
both contradictive and absorbing layers between art,
fiction and fact. We will dig our way through the theme
this autumn to present what we've discovered.
Which means that we dont have a preset definition
of what Limbo really means. Your hereby welcome to
join the process.

PRACTICALITIES
Invitation is open til September the 1st. We are looking
for linear or non-linear pieces, either interactive or self-active.
Duration should not exceed 20 minutes. Interactive pieces

Artists association Galerija GT and FAMUL STUART School of Applied Arts
(Ljubljana, Slovenia)

eu-stuart.si
EuropeanArtStudents'DigitalWorks
Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2005

complete info: http://www.eu-stuart.si

CALL FOR SUBMISSION:
NEW DEADLINE: 16th AUGUST 2005 !
All works arrived on Famul Stuart address till 1 P.M. 16th AUGUST 2005
will be accepted.
If received later, the final date of the official postal stamp from 12th
AUGUST 2005 is valid.

SHORT INFORMATION

The second edition of EuropeanArtStudents'DigitalWorksExhibition
(eu-stuart.si 2005/06) invites young artists to submit their work
(video, animation, short film, open digital media) with Open theme or to
participate in a Special theme category.

Theme CATEGORIES:
A. Special theme: Ljubljana (Maribor, Nova Gorica...)??? What (Who,
Where) is that?
B. Open theme

ENTRIES:
Works of current art students and artists that have recently graduated
(in years 2004 and 2005) are welcome. No entry fees.

AWARDS:
The eu-stuart.si event is not (and is not intended to become) a contest.
First of all, it is a platform for communication among young artists,
however in its start, as it works on extremely low-budget basis, we
cannot afford to invite the participating artists to Ljubljana. We can
only show their digital work. But to get a step further in the aim of
actual mobility of people, we decided that the jury will select the best
work from the Special theme submissions: "Ljubljana..." and the visitors
of the exhibition on tour will choose "the winner of the public" (from
both, the Special and the Open Theme).

A foreign winner will receive 3 days FREE stay in Celica Youth Hostel
(http://www.souhostel.com/en/artists/index.html) in Ljubljana during the
event Famul in Celica in year 2006. If the winner is a Slevenian
resident, she or he will be invited to realise a short video or
animation in the studios of Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts.

APPLICATION and DATES:
Application form can be found on http://www.eu-stuart.si
Application deadlines: Application forms and works should be received by
1 P.M. July 1st 2005 for final selection. The date of the official
postal stamp (June 26th 2005) is valid if the work arrives later than
July 1st.
