Participant contemporary fine artists sought for ‘Body Container’ project.
Introduction
Most people by now will have heard of the Mexican” Day of the Dead’ and it seems such an alien concept in a way to western cultures, where the subject of death is treated very differently.
Under the auspices of the ‘e-mail art form’ base
-this project seeks to explore and research the various rituals associated with death in the numerous world cultures (urban and post modern) throughout the world.
Of equal value and interest are the responses of the individual, of the artist whatever your context. Please see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/e-mail-artists/ for further details

Berliner Fenster & interfilm Berlin present:
"Going Underground 4"
4rth International Subway Film Festival Berlin
02.February -08.February. 2005
'Going Underground', from the 2nd of February until the 8th of February 2005 Berliner Fenster in co-operation with interfilm Berlin will run the fourth International Short Film Festival for 'Ultra Shorts' in Berlin's underground trains. Those privileged to travel the Berlin Underground will find that their usual glassy-eyed 'underground-stare' will be awakened and entertained by a variety of short delights.
'Ultra Shorts', are films of up to 90 seconds in length, the most challenging of short film formats, especially considering that the underground screens require all films be silent. Apart from that, provocative shock effects using sex and violence had to be refrained from, owing to the different age groups amongst public transport travellers. A difficult task for those who enter, however the 14 films that will be selected for presentation in the underground, will be therefore particularly exceptional.
Four films will be shown daily and passengers are invited to be the jury. The films will be seen by one million people every day and can either be voted for directly using a mobile phone SMS message service, or via the internet on
www.berliner-fenster.de or www.interfilm.de
The three winning film makers will be rewarded with prizes of
1000,-, 2000,- & 3000,- Euro at the award ceremony.
Application & Information:
Application Deadline is the 15th of December 2004
Entries for the competition may be no longer than 90 sec., they may be silent and free of extreme violent or obscene content.
For more information and the application form visit the websites:

Artists of all experience levels and backgrounds are encouraged to submit work. We hope to showcase work by over one hundred artists, and we look forward to your participation.
JUROR: The exhibit will be juried by Josh MacPhee, an artist and activist based in Chicago. MacPhee recently curated "Paper Politics," an extremely successful political printmaking show in Chicago which showcased over 250 prints from over 60 artists. He is the author of the recently published "Stencil Pirates: A Global Study of the Street Stencil," on Soft Skull Press.
MEDIA INCLUDED: "Print art" featured in this exhibit can include monotypes, silkscreen, letterpress, stenciling, etching, block prints, hand-processed photo prints, or any kind of printing on paper that retains some evidence of the human hand. Open Call for Secrets - please also pass it on to others
I need your secrets for an upcoming art project working with text- basically text with secrets will be hidden within the piece- it will be about concealment. As it is about concealment, nobody but me would ever know anything about the senders but what they are completely comfortable with. I completely respect privacy and realize that everybody will be anonymous senders but would like to at least know what country you are from- probably Canada but I'm hoping to spread this out a bit. However, if you aren't even comfortable with listing your country, and send it anon in the mail, that will have to be fine. I would know nothing about you then. I also assure that all secrets will be treated respectfully, that being said, I need people's secrets for my project. Not your deepest darkest secret (though that would be seriously amazing), but something that is a secret from somebody- perhaps from yourself, your sweetheart, your friends, etc. I want 'positive' and 'negative' things: crushes on married people, affairs with married people, stealing a book, accidentally spilling water all over a magazine in a store and then putting it back on the shelf after (see, I shared with you, and all secrets need not be dire), something nice you didn't want credit for (I always wait until my waiter's back is turned to leave a tip- weird, I know), out of character moments, in character moments, etc- where are your boundaries? Maybe you don't have any secrets.
I need your secrets. Only your secrets; if it is somebody else's than they should be telling me. I want very much to work with preexisting facts for my project exploring communication and language and need these tangible material ideas to work with. I certainly don't expect names (though that would also be amazing) but I would like as many of the following as people are comfortable with:
1- initials/ 2- (this one I do need) country / 3- city/ 4- gender/ 5- age
I realize that secrets are secrets for reasons- but this is closer to going to a psychiatrist- I am impartial and nobody will know it is you unless you want them to. This can be a liberating experience. I sent out a secret into the world and it left me feeling at first heady and nervous and then a little good for venting…
This is an open call but please only truthful and sincere responses. I could easily make stuff up too but that ruins the point of this. I am asking for the following three things:
a) A 1 sentence description of your secret (the shorter the better- distill it's essences for me)
b) 1-3 paragraph long description or back-story to help me see how it 'works'
c) Your country and other optional info
ineedyoursecrets@yahoo.ca
(Because otherwise I might erase your stuff as spam)
Or mailed to
ATTN Secrets/ Colleen Baran
15872 98th Ave/ Surrey BC/ Canada V4N 2V3
This is an ongoing call but I would like at least a few secrets by Dec 14th '04- so please don't wait though the call will continue after that until summer '05.
*if you are a 'submitter' and want to be updated with the projects evolution please let me know- otherwise I will not- anonymity and all…

CALL FOR PAPERS, PERFORMANCES, & INSTALLATIONS
INTERACTIVE FUTURES is a forum for showing recent tendencies in new media art as well as a conference for exploring issues related to technology. The theme of this year's event is Technology in the Life World. With digital media becoming more mobile, many artists and theorists are exploring ideas of nomadism and telepresence. Nomadic computing, mobile devices used to augment reality, and more publicly distributed technologies, are being considered by artists and theorists for their ethical and social impact.
Technology in the Life World will be presented in two streams: Digital Nomadism and Technology and Ethics. Artists working in new media are encouraged to submit proposals for installations, performances, and screenings. In their proposals, artists should relate their work to one of the above themes. All art work will be presented at Open Space artist-run centre. Installations should be compact and self-contained. Please see the list of technologies available toward the end of this document before applying. Scholars and artists working in new media arts, theory, and criticism are encouraged to submit proposals for presentations at the conference. Presentations should be, in part, demonstrative, incorporating digital technologies, interactive or digital video, sound, or network-based elements. In their proposals, presenters should relate their work to one of the above themes. We encourage proposals that push the boundaries of the traditional conference paper. Most presentations will take place at the Laurel Point Inn.
INTERACTIVE FUTURES is part of the Independent Film and Video Festival and applicants are encouraged to check the Festival website for more information on the broader program.
