First Person will be presented at C-Level in Chinatown, Los Angeles on Saturday August the 30th from 6:00 pm. to 9:00 pm. We will begin the distribution of this DVD at C-level; we will continue with presentations in Mexico, and other locations in the US.

We have published First Person in an run of 1000 copies, so that we can distribute this video work widely. We are asking for a donation (plus $5 shipping,) which will help pay for the cost to distribute this work in screenings at universities, and independent media centers in the US and Mexico.

Call for Papers: International Research Meeting Online-Religions and
Rituals-Online?

On 13.-15. Octobre 2004 the project C2 Between Online-Religion and
Religion-Online: constellations of the transfer of rituals in the medium
internet of the collaborative research centre Dynamics of Rituals at the
University of Heidelberg (http://www.ritualdynamik.uni-hd.de/) arranges the
international research meeting Online-Religions and Rituals-Online?

The research meeting will deal with the topic of religion on the internet
with special regards on the ritual discourse on the internet from the
electronic publication of traditional ritual scripts to presentations of
innovative design of rituals. Several aspects of the dynamic change of
rituals by the use of the internet will be discussed.

The research meeting is dedicated to the exchange and discussion of
methodological questions of the analysis of religious websites. Hence,
methodological contributions as well as reports from current research,
which deal with the topic of religion on the internet, are highly appreciated.

The conference will take place at the university of Heidelberg (Germany).
The conference language is English. We do not plan to take a conference fee.

titled 'fm01'.

fm01 transposes non-metaphoric systems and
grammar theory [of computer languages, abstraction
and data containers] to the realm of expanded
cinema. A relational, nodal language of connection
will be formulated to descend through levels of
scene, shot and frame [stored and to be shot].
Visual and syntactical analysis software will form
a large part of the fm01 engine.

RULES_

Cultural Association comenzemos empezemos convokes the sixth edition of the
shortfilm audiovisual competition that has non competitive character.


1.- PARTICIPANTS. Anybody of any age or nationality can take part in the
competition. Participants can send as many works as they want, there is no
limit in the number of works but they have to comply to the following
conditions:

- Works must be produced on video hardware, analogical or digital.
- Works must be filmed in Spanish or any language. In the case of being
filmed in another language the print must be subtitled in Spanish.

There is no time limit, but brief works will be valued considering it is a
shortfilm showing.

Subject matter (topics) and genre are free.


2.-SUBMITTING. Works must be submitted in videocassette or cd. A written
label with work's and author's names and work's running time is essential.

Works will be submitted in any of these hardware: VHS, MINI.DV, SVIDEO-CD,
VIDEO-CD or CD-ROM (AVI, MPEG, MOV, SWF). In the case of videos will be
codified with any specific codec, we recommend participants send them as
well for perfect watching. Works will make up Official Section must be send
one MINI-DV print for the showing.


3.-DOCUMENTS. Participants must fill in the form correctly and send at least
two images for the catalogue. Images (jpg) can't be more than 100KB each.

It's recommended to fill in the online form, but it's possible to send
filled form to envios@zemos98.org, or send it with the work by post. In this
last case it can be send on diskette or printed.

If the producer wants can send a production report or any additional
information. Files only will be accepted by e-mail or post but always at the
same time as works.

The absence of any essential document will be included on the arrival
shortfilm list of www.zemos98.org. If these mistakes aren't solved before
5th December 2003, Selection Committee will not consider the works.


4.- SENDING. Works must be sent by post or any messenger company from 5th
August 2003 until 5th December 2003.

5.- SELECTION. All works will be showed during Zemos98_6¥s Festival. None of
them will be excluded in the Festival.
There are two categories:

OFFICIAL SECTION, aspiring to prizes (selected by Zemos98_6¥ Selection

MARATHON, the rest of works.
All the information related to shortfilms, day, date and showing place will
be published on www.zemos98.org 4 weeks after ending submitting date.


6.- SHOWING. Public showing from the OFFICIAL SECTION will be on March 2004,
at Casa de la Cultura Antonio Machado in El Viso del Alcor, Sevilla. Public
showing from Shotfilm¥s Marathon will be on February and March 2004 in
different places in Sevilla and El Viso del Alcor.
Showing program will be organised with enough time and will be published on
www.zemos98.org.


7.- RETURNS or REFUNDS. All works will make up zemos98¥s Video Library
(video.teca.zemos98) and could be shown with cultural or educational
purposes (never commercial purposes). During the year zemos98 organise
different showings, these can be consulted on www.zemos98.org.

8.- PRIZES AND CERTIFICATES. DVD ZEMOS98_6. According to the Collaboration's
Agreement between Comenzemos Empezemos and FREAK Distribution Agent
(www.freakdistribucion.com) there are 3 prizes:

BEST SHORTFILM- chosen by public (audience)
BEST FREAK SHORTFILM- chosen by FREAK Distribution Agent
BEST ZEMOS98 SHORTFILMS- chosen by Zemos98_6¥s Selection Committee.


ZEMOS98 will produce DVD ZEMOS98_6 with awarded shortfilms, sold benefits
will mainly go to shortfilms¥s authors/producers. DVD Zemos98_6 distribution
's conditions can be found on Festival Conditions (Appendix 1). DVD will be
distributed by FREAK Distribution Agent.

3rd Shortfilm Directors¥ Meeting/Videoastas: Reflection Speech about
audiovisual topic.

Festival zemos98_6¥s Organisation will invite all shortfilm producers
(authors) from the OFFICIAL SECTION to this speech/meeting, that will last 3
days. Here will be treated any aspect of shortfilms made on video.
Shortfilm Directors will be invited to all activities organised by
zemos98_6.


CERTIFICATES. Awarded Shortfilms and all works from the OFFICIAL SECTION
will received a certificate of participation in the Festival. If necessary
the Organisation will make special mentions that will also received a
certificate.

audiovisual@zemos98.org. All participants are recommended to join the
zemos98 list, here they will be informed of any change or activity

This is a CALL FOR PROPOSALS (Deadline is September 15)

ARMORY CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND ONE COLORADO
"ART OVER YOUR HEAD"
To be considered for a one-person installation exhibition
in the Courtyard at One Colorado, Old Pasadena

Beginning November 12, 2003, the Armory Center for the Arts will organize four outdoor site-specific installations for the 2003-04 program year in the central courtyard area of One Colorado. Three of these will be one-person shows. Each installation will be on view for approximately four months. This exhibition series is a collaboration between the Armory and One Colorado.
One Colorado consists of seventeen historical buildings including shops, restaurants, offices, and a central courtyard on one city block in the heart of Old Pasadena. Set between Colorado Boulevard and Union Street and between Fair Oaks Avenue and Delacey Street, the One Colorado courtyard attracts between 2,000 and 4,000 visitors daily.

We are looking for innovative ideas that explore the possibilities of the extensive space. Chosen artists will construct a site-specific installation to be shown at least 8 feet above the ground. Works may be in a wide variety of media, including sound-based or light-based media, and may be installed in different types of spaces, such as the courtyard windows, outer passageways, walls, rooftops, or tower. Works may be visible by day, night, or both. All works must be weather-resistant and remain in good condition for at least four months. Issues of public safety must be in consideration. Artists are encouraged to visit One Colorado and its venues to possibly integrate related subjects into their proposals. One Colorado site plans are available at www.onecolorado.net.

Installation proposals (maximum 200 words), accompanied by a maximum of 10 slides of related work by each submitting artist, will be reviewed by Jay Belloli, Director of Gallery Programs and Elise Barclay, Exhibitions Coordinator at the Armory Center for the Arts, and Robin Faulk, Marketing Consultant at One Colorado. One Colorado will provide a $500 honorarium to each participating artist. "Art Over Your Head" is made possible through the generosity of One Colorado.

WIDC 23rd INTERNATIONAL FILM & VIDEO FESTIVAL

Women in the Director's Chair is accepting entries to its 23rd International Film & Video Festival, March 12-21, 2004 in Chicago.

The WIDC Festival showcases artistic innovation and diverse perspectives. Last year, the Festival received 789 submissions from around the world, and showcased 134 innovative films and videos by media makers from 24 countries and 30 U.S. states. The complete schedule of the 22nd Festival is available on our website under "festival."

Films, videos, installations, and digital media of any length or genre completed since January 2001 are eligible for consideration. Submissions must have been co-directed by a woman, girl or transgendered director.

Overview: The Harvestworks Artist In Residence Program offers commissions of up to $4000 to make a new work in our state of the art digital media facility. Each artist receives a $700 fee with the balance of the award posted in a "facilities account" which is used to manage and produce the work. The artist works with a team comprised of a project manager, engineer and programmer (if required). Work produced in the program is premiered in the Harvestworks’ 5.1 Presentation Lab. Residents are also included in Creative Contact, an Internet compilation of digital artwork on the Harvestworks website.

New works may include the creation of a new video work with a surround sound audio mix, audio recording and mastering of a surround sound piece, the creation of a new web art work and the development of a live interactive music/video/installation system using Max/MSP/Jitter. Up to 12 residencies will be selected (depending on project size and funding) along with two alternates in the event any resident artist cannot participate. Priority will be given to the creative use of the Harvestworks' production facility and the innovative use of sound and/or picture. Emerging artists and artists of color are encouraged to apply.
