RELINE
DVD compilation
accepting submissions for the second video art compilation DVD
The first RELINE DVD has been a worldwide success, providing exposure for the represented video artists and experimental video art as a medium.

"The 10 video manipulations on show here hint at some of the deeper currents running through the twin dimensions of programmable space." - WIRE magazine

"The ten artists on Reline manipulate, break, and build technology to link, warp, and tune a new visual language of graphic abstraction." - XLR8R magazine

The goal of RELINE is to compile an array of work showcasing artists engaged in the creation of new visual forms deriving from experimental techniques.

Part video archive, part work of art itself, RELINE serves the dual goal of contextualizing and developing an emerging media form. The second disc in the series is marked by the conceptual use of software and hardware to truly push the bounds of image making. From generative art, to meticulously composed masterpieces, to DVD specific video compositions, we are looking for works that are unique in their technical and aesthetic approach. We hope that these progressive video pieces will touch at the hidden depth of immediate and visceral experience.

NOTE --> For this disc we highly encourage people to explore the various ways in which the DVD format can be exploited:

> 5.1 surround audio
> creative use of the DVD multi-angle feature (various selectable audio & video tracks)
> experimental scripting (randomization, etc.)
> subtitle & line 21 abuse (closed captioning)

The financial model of RELINE is simple. We put up the funds to create, manufacture, and distribute the disc. Once we have recouped what we have spent and saved a bit to create the next disc, a percentage of the profits are distributed equally among the artists.

Please explore the RELINE site to familiarize youself with our origins.

SYNAPSE ART AND SCIENCE RESIDENCIES

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

ANAT (Australian Network for Art and Technology) is calling for proposals from Australian science organisations, interested in hosting artist residencies and developing collaborative programs between artists and scientists

This is the first stage in the Synapse Art and Science Residency program, which aims to create new partnerships between scientists and artists, science institutions and art organisations. It is part of the Australia Council New Media Arts Board Synapse initiative.

BACKGROUND
The Synapse Art and Science Initiative aims to encourage creative and experimental collaborations between scientists and artists, which further enhance public engagement with both science and art. The initiative has been developed by the Australia Council and implemented along with partners including the Australian Research Council and Australian Network for Art and Technology (ANAT).

RATIONALE
The Synapse Art and Science Residency program aims to develop new collaborations/creative partnerships between artists and scientists and develop a sustainable support base for long-term collaboration across the arts and sciences. It will see two to three art/science artist residencies undertaken at science organisations in Australia. There is some funding support available for residencies through the Australia Council, and it is envisaged that the host organisation would match this support either through cash or in-kind resources (or a combination of both).

Previous experience with artists or arts residencies is not essential as the focus is on developing new opportunities for artists and scientists to work together. Science organisations already working with artists or developing art/science collaborations are welcome to apply. Once potential host organisations have been identified, an outline of a residency will be developed and a call for proposals will be distributed to artists.

DEADLINES FOR PROPOSALS FROM SCIENCE ORGANISATIONS:
November 28, 2003
