ARTIADE - Olympics of the contemporary Arts - ATHENS 2004
The Olympics of the Visual Arts. Artists from nations taking part in the Olympic Games represent their countries as cultural ambassadors, in an art exhibition parallel to the Games themselves.
Applications are also invited from artists representing countries that do not yet participate in the Olympic Games.

Each artist documents, through his or her works, the cultural background of his or her country of origin. The works give an insight into life in each country by documenting the spirit of the age - political and social events, emotions and traditions.

Conditions of Participation

§ 1. Theme
The works should present aspects of life in the countries from which the artists come. See for example the Kuwaiti artist of the ARTIADE 1996 Hamad Khalaf (http://www.hamadkhalaf.com)

§ 2. Participants
Entry is open to all visual artists, whether academically trained or self-taught.

§ 3. Categories
There are three entry categories, as follows:
a) Sculpture
There are no restrictions with regard to technique. Works should not exceed: Weight, 500 kg; Height, 300 cm; Width/diameter, 250 cm. Exceptions to the above may be considered.

b) Painting
There are no restrictions with regard to technique. Works should not exceed: Height, 300 cm; Width, 300 cm. Exceptions to the above may be considered.

c) Installations
There are no restrictions with regard to technique.

Three-dimensional installations:
Works should not exceed: Area, 50 square metres; Height, 300 cm

Video installations:
Works should be presented either as videocassettes (PAL or NTSC) or DVDs, or on a CD-ROM. For special estate exceptions can be considered.

§ 4. Documentation
Artists may enter a maximum of three works for the exhibition. All documentation (see below) must reach the organisers by 29.Februray 2004 at the latest.

Full documentation must accompany each work, and must include:

Entry form:
- Name of the artist
- Biography of the artist (for the catalogue, DVD/CD-ROM und Internet)
Description of the Work:
- Name of the artist
- The genre of the work; the title (where applicable); the materials used and technique employed
- A description of the work (including the statement the work is making, if applicable)
- The dimensions and weight of the work, both with and without packaging materials
- The insurance value (i.e. the value to which it will be insured by the artist)
- High quality photographic or video reproductions of the work. These may be in the form of Ektachromes, slides, and/or digital images (.tif / .eps / .avi / .mpg / .mpeg / .mov format)

The photographs etc. will also be used for publication on the Internet, in CD-ROM and DVD format, and in the exhibition catalogue published by the CULTURAL FOUNDATION ARTIADE e. V. . In addition, artists must include a statement authorising the CULTURAL FOUNDATION ARTIADE e. V. to publish images of the work if it is accepted for exhibition. The CULTURAL FOUNDATION ARTIADE e. V. reserves the right to store all data received, and to publish them on the Internet (for example as part of the selection procedure) or in other media.

Selection by the jury, and participation in the ARTIADE - Olympics of the contemporary Arts - ATHENS 2004, cannot take place without all of the above documentation.

Residency Programe
For artists in the field of new media such as computer arts, photography and/or video installation who are interested in presenting their works in an exhibition organized by our curators in Hall.
We are looking for artists who are interested in a 2months-residence- program for the year 2003 offered by Stromboli a cultural centre in Hall in Tirol/Austria. The idea is to create contact between cultural scenes of Austria an the south-eastern European region, to enforce the exchange of ideas and to get an interesting input from outside.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Artists in the field of new media such as computer arts, photography and/or video installation who are interested in presenting their works in an exhibition organized by our curators in Hall.
For a period of two months you are invited to work in a new surrounding, which you could also refer to. Possible themes or contents are expected to be developed in mutual reflections. We prefer candidates who are communicative and interested in cultural exchange and are able to stay with us for a period of two months.

WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU: You get the possibility to live and work in a historical town with a lively cultural life. We provide the studio, accommodation and a monthly grant of EUR 500,-. Working materials should be included as well, and have to be agreed on depending on the project.
Contact with other cultural organisations will be created and your work will be presented at the end of your stay in Hall.
Since we would like to start our artist in residence programme in february/march 2004 at the latest, and there´s a lot of preparation work to do till then(such as visa, insurance etc.), the application deadline should be: december, 20th 2003.

International ArtExpo 2004 > Video Festivals | Mexico - France (Paris) - Spain (Madrid)

Dear artists and friends,

I'm selecting all interesting video/film to include in the next ArtExpo Video.Exhibitions in Mexico, France and Spain. All works must be on DVD or MiniDV, no matter what the original source medium. The duration may be any, with a preference given to a max lenght of 1.5 hours. If the artists want to travel for the festivals, accomodation can be arranged cheap.

The first festival will be in Observatorio Centro Experimental (Galeana 70 centro Morelia Michoacan - Mexico), from 07 to 28 of february 2004.

The second festival will be in Festival SIGNES DE NUIT (Cinema BALZAC, 1, rue Balzac - 75008 - Paris) the 27 of march 2004.

The last will be in NONSTOP.MADRID.04, coordinated by Ma José de Cordoba Serrano, at the Pabellón de la Pipa del Recinto Ferial de Casa de Campo" in Madrid, from 30 of september to 04 of october 2004.

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2004.

p l a t e a u x international platform for young theatre directors
International artists, performers and companies in the field of experimental theatre, performance art and live art are invited to send in conceptual proposals.
plateaux is a supportive model for experimental theatre. The project was initiated in 1999 by Künstlerhaus MOUSONTURM in co-operation with the cultural foundation of Deutsche Bank.

plateaux commissions a limited number of productions and invites the artists for production residencies. The projects will be presented during a festival in October 2004 at Künstlerhaus MOUSONTRUM.

plateaux supervises the production period and promotes the project within international networks.

The application should include a precise conceptual description, profound documentations on previous projects (including videos), a budget calculation and CVs.

CDS/HONICKMAN BOOK PRIZE IN PHOTOGRAPHY CENTER FOR DOCUMENTARY STUDIES

The Center for Documentary Studies/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography is a biennial prize of $3,000 in grant money, inclusion in a traveling exhibition, and most importantly, the publication of a book of photography to be published by Duke University Press in association with Lyndhurst Books of the Center for Documentary Studies. Maria Morris Hambourg, Curator of Photography at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, will judge the entries and write an introduction for the book.

Since 1982, Atlantic Center's residency program has provided artists from all artistic disciplines with spaces to live, work, and collaborate during three week residencies. Each residency session includes three master artists of different disciplines. During the residency, artists participate in informal sessions with their group, collaborate on projects, and work independently on their own projects. The relaxed atmosphere and unstructured program provide considerable time for artistic regeneration and creation. Atlantic Center for the Arts provides housing (private room/bath with work desk), weekday meals (provided by ACA chef) and shared studio space.
