As time goes by, it is the established patterns of thought, the known
arguments, the self-perpetuating truths which become the principal
defenders of the structures in place. ..The active vocabulary needed to
question, even to simply discuss them, has withered away.

| The Dead-Artist Desert Trailer-Park is located in the American
| Southwest Desert. I basically inherited (after paying back-taxes)
| an isolated, derelict trailer-park which is being
| transformed without the interference of cultural bureaucrats

The Digital Challenge
The conference will be held in two sections: one dealing with aspects of technology and development and one about content-forming and social science) for which we expect submission of papers on the topic of digitalization.

Objective:
During the conference called The Digital Challenge the possible users can learn about the technical and technological novelties, try to survey the expected direction of development, on the other hand though – with the help of filmmakers, critics and social scientist participating at the festival – they could examine all the details of the effects digital technology has on content-forming and society.

Topics:
Rapidly developing digital technologies gain more and more ground both in making and distributing films. The new sound, the optionally changeable pictures, the growing number of world premiers and the individual receptive ways which can be chosen with more and more freedom are only a few – but insinuative – examples of this booming group of possibilities with which digital technology enriched the motion picture industry. Furthermore, the forced pace development opens up new perspectives for users day by day. The follow-up of these results and the creative use of them in practice is the inevitable interest of filmmakers.

The organizers wish to couple the scientific conference The Digital Challenge with the 2nd International Scientific Film Festival in Szolnok (27 Sept.-2 Oct. 2003) to study the new possibilities and perspectives offered by digital technology.

Lectures:
The conference The Digital Challenge will be held in two sections (one dealing with aspects of technology and development and one about content-forming and social science) for which we expect submission of papers on the topic of digitalization besides the ones by invited lecturers.

Duration of lectures: 20 minutes.

Please send the title of lectures and an 8-10 line abstracts to the conference secretariat by mail, fax or e-mail before 31 March 2003.

O P A K F I is Scientific Society for Optics, Acoustics, Motion Picture and Theatre Technology.
The conference is held in association with the 2nd International Scientific Film Festival (27 September-2 October 2003).
