Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto
UNIDEE in Residence
A four-month residence project for students and artists from all over the world. The course is part of the University of Ideas, founded in Biella by Michelangelo Pistoletto in 1999.
http://www.cittadellarte.it/unidee/index.html
UNIDEE offers a significant specialisation course to students and graduates coming from different university backgrounds.
The growing interest in the research and development of IDEAS on all levels of the social context is not perceived by UNIDEE in generic terms. It is perceived as need for creative contribution in every field of human activity, following the specific direction previously mentioned in the introduction. Consequently, UNIDEE offers each course participant a unique experience not be found in any other academic or university program. Activities are, in fact, based on the application and use of imagination in the chosen profession, and they all aim at a responsible social transformation.
Moreover, art students and young artists will have the opportunity of introducing their creative work to larger shares of the social context.
The residents will live and work in the buildings of Cittadellarte, a remarkable architectural example of industrial archaeology. Apart from attending courses, workshops, public meetings and exhibitions, they will also share the behavioural experience of living within a collective community.
Each year a maximum of twenty seats will be assigned.
To take part in the selection, candidates must send their ideas, projects and documentation of the activities they have carried out in their field.
The application must include:
1. The application form that must be filled in and signed.
2. Brief description of a project that complies with the premises of Universita delle Idee, mentioned in the introduction. (2 sheets)
3. Any additional documentation regarding the project or the applicants' activity in general (drawings, photographs, videos…)
The material must reach us by 31 March 2003. Please write "UNIDEE in residence" both on the envelope and in the cover.
Each participant has to pay an amount of Euro 1600,00 for the four monts residence.
The fee includes:
- seminars for the entire 4 month period
- Workshop attendance
- technical and didactic support materials
- participation to the activities of Cittadellarte
- board and lodging in the seat of the Fondazione.

Artists Residencies
Workspace Program: The Woolworth Building, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council
(New York NY)
In spring 2003 the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) will continue its program of innovative site-oriented artist residencies by granting selected artists the unique opportunity to work high above lower Manhattan in the historic Woolworth Building.
In uncharacteristically raw, open-format space on the 33rd floor, generously donated by The Witkoff Group, twelve artists will be invited to work on new projects that actively engage with the environment, the exceptional views, and the aesthetic dynamics created by the site. There are 360º views onto the former WTC site, Battery Park and the harbor, the East River and Brooklyn, and the full expanse of Broadway as it weaves uptown. Like World Views, LMCC’s former residency program in the World Trade Center, as well as the recent New Views residencies in the World Financial Center and DUMBO, Brooklyn, this program encourages an artistic/political/theoretical consideration of location and context and continues LMCC’s mission to position artists in lower Manhattan, create ties between the arts and business communities, and to support the careers of artists in all fields.
Workspace: The Woolworth Building is open to emerging and mid-career artists working in all disciplines including painting, photography, sculpture, video, installation and new media. Each residency session is 5-months long. Artists have access to the studios 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Studios have minimal facilities. (Be aware Woolworth elevators cannot accommodate large equipment or materials.) Artists must be living within reasonable distance from the studios during the residency term. There is no live space.

Deadline for application materials (due at LMCC by 4:00 pm): March 7, 2003
