25hrs
International art show - 24-hour non-stop projection of a wide-ranging selection of works made after 1990. A complete vision of current contemporary art. Open call!
25hrs is a screening of video art to be held in Barcelona on 9th May, 2003.
We will be presenting around 300 pieces with a maximum length of 20 minutes by international artists of all tendencies and from different cultural environments. The screening will be held on a large screen, in a space in the city centre where we will provide adequate seating for a large number of viewers.
Artists and their work will be chosen from a variety of backgrounds and a wide scope of videographic registers will be accepted in order to give a complete, general vision of current video art. The selection will be made by invitation and through an open call.
OPEN CALL
One signed copy of the application form must be sent together with the work to the address below.
Orientation:
Open Call for video art produced since 1990. Video works less than 20 minutes long made for a single-channel screening. We are looking for the widest possible selection of videos made since 1990. Our selection process will take into account the imagination, originality and creative focus of the pieces rather than their budget or technique. Works produced on film will be allowed if they are presented in video format. You may send as many works as you like, as several videos of the same artists may be included.
Exhibition rights:
There is a screening fee for the selected works to be paid to the artists of 25 € plus an extra 3 € per minute of duration of the work.
Each selected artist will receive a free copy of the book that will be published for 25hrs.
Format:
We accept the following formats for selection: VHS, DVD or MiniDV (PAL or NTSC). We regret that we cannot return tapes submitted.
TheVideoArtFoundation will contact the artists whose works have been chosen to arrange the details of their participation. At that moment a projection quality PAL tape will be necessary, along with 4 stills and a written summary of the piece. This version will then be transferred to the screening tape by the organising committee. Then we will return the master tape to the artists.
Language:
In case that the video contains words or dialogue in a language other than English or Spanish, an English translation of the dialogue must be included with the tape.
Notification of acceptance: April, 2003
25hrs will show a wide variety of attitudes and approaches to the problems of contemporary society. We hope to include works of about 300 artists in order to offer a wide overview of video art of the last decade. We will be publishing a catalogue that we hope will prove to be a useful instrument both for artists and curators.

No Name Exhibitions @ The Soap Factory
Seeking artist submissions for 2003 season
Located in a 48,000 sq. ft. turn-of-the-century Soap Factory on the banks of the Mississippi River, the non-profit No Name Exhibitions, established in 1988, has earned a significant national reputation as an innovative, experimental venue for new work by emerging contemporary artists. Providing artists with the space and freedom to create site-specific projects and large-scale installations, as well as intimate white walled gallery spaces, The Soap Factory maintains what was great about the alternative spaces of the 70's and 80's while embracing artists whose visions are very much of the 21st century. Our website — www.soapfactory.org — provides a look at past and current projects.
No Name provides publicity, exhibition invitations, mailings, opening reception, artist talks, and installation assistance as well as a substantial stipend to artists and curators. No Name does not insure artwork in its galleries. There is no commission taken from any art works sold.
No Name accepts submissions on an ongoing basis. Submissions are reviewed through March 2003 for the 2003 season. We will begin notifying artists in March 2003. Please send slides (10 is sufficient), a slide inventory sheet, resume, and a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your materials. Work Call for Exploring Color Photography, Fourth Edition
Dear Imagemaker,
We are collecting photographic and digital images for the new fourth edition of Exploring Color Photography to be published and internationally distributed by McGraw-Hill and Laurence King. First published in 1988, the book’s basic premise is how artists use color photographic processes to realize their vision.
This revision will greatly expand its digital coverage, but work done in any analog or digital color process is welcome. Emphasis will be placed on contemporary ideas and techniques, but traditional images are wanted. Quotes from the artists that incorporate their conceptual and technical ideas are featured with each image. Artists whose work is used will receive a copy of the book and an on-page credit for their contribution. Suggestions for new topics and assignments will also be considered. Look at the current third edition to get a complete overview of what is covered and the information we require. Complete details and submission instructions are available at:
http://www.negativepositive.com
or http://www.mhhe.com/hirsch4
Submission Requirements:
Send high-quality slides along with detailed technical information about how the images were created. Include a checklist for all images with an ID for each image that has: title, date, size, and process. Support materials such as an artists’ statement about how and why image was made along with special details of processes used is ESSENTIAL. For preliminary viewing we will accept digital files in JPEG, Pict, or Tiff on CD only. We can also initially look at URLs if they include the previously mentioned information, but we need concrete (non-virtual) references to consider the work.
Images selected for publication must be prepared as >high-quality transparencies or prints not larger than 8 x 10 inches or as TIFF uncompressed files, 350 DPI, full page size (i.e. the eventual book page size) which is 280 x 240 mm = 11 x 9 1/2 inches, putting the spine dimension first, CMYK, presented on clearly labeled CDs please with a thumbnail print-out of the entire contents.
