This is a postdoctoral level position, intended to create a situation in which the project director Dr Iordanova and appointee (as well as an incoming full time research student) will form a team to produce scholarly output aimed at extending and deepening the understanding of the rich but little known cinematic tradition of the Balkans (including the cinemas of ex-Yugoslavia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Albania) and exploring the specifics of historical filmmaking in the region.

The Research Associate will play a role in research and administration and will be encouraged to establish specialism within the project's context and will be encouraged to produce research output by both participating in the general research activities and by developing his/her own writing. The successful candidate will be expected to start in January 2004.

Meeting point for emerging generations of artists from Art Academies of European and other countries that will realize and present performances, actions, lectures, web projects, video and on site installations, painting and sculpture...
We would like to inform you that in Belgrade gathering of students Real Presence 3, will be held from – 20/26 – 31. August 2002.

The period from the 20th till 25 August will be open workshop and preparations for active and official program that begins on the 26th and lasts till 31. August.

So-called active program consists of student workshop and everyday groups or individual presentations, discussions, and other free activities (music, dance, performances, cooking etc.)

For your stay in Belgrade we are offering double rooms with breakfast.
Other meals will be provided through some organizations. But, we are proposing, as it was organized in last year, dinner sessions prepared by different group of guests. The stay and the food will be gratis.
In our invitation it is not included students trowel coast.

Complete program of Real Presence 3 will take place in the Museum 25. May, in the space of 3500 square meters, which is very interesting for artistic interventions. Also, technical, material support will be at students’ disposal.

Following the initiative of Gasthof in Frankfurt 2002, we decided to accept their idea the students participating should pay 100 EUR each. This is a very useful idea because such large gatherings of young persons consider different and numerous costs.

What why we ask you to send us the reply as soon as possible, because of room reservations and program in whole. Please, inform us by which means of transport you are arriving, and at what time, so we could meet you.

We would like to inform you that all the guests coming to Belgrade do not need visa.

Application for the participation at the Real Presence 3, Belgrade

First and second edition of Real Presence - Generation 2001/02 curated by Biljana Tomiç and Dobrila Denegri was a huge international multimedia workshop and meeting of young artists and students from East and West European Art Academies after ten years of war, political crisis and cultural isolation of Yugoslavia/ now Serbia and Montenegro. In this time of transition there is necessity to bridge the gaps and re-establish contacts and cultural dialogue between /Yugoslavia/ Serbia and Montenegro and other countries, so 1° and 2° edition of Real Presence involved emerging generations of artists coming from different cultural backgrounds and working in different media. In the first two editions took part about 400 young artists coming from numerous Art Academies and countries (Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hungary, Island, Italy, Latvia, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland…) during the two weeks workshop and exhibition in Belgrade.

This year will take place third edition of Real Presence, from 20th till 31st of August 2003 continuing the idea of creating a meeting point for emerging generations of artists from Art Academies of European and other countries that will realize and present performances, actions, lectures, web projects, video and on site installations, painting and sculpture, affirm their actual possibilities to move freely and openly within different disciplines, media and expressive languages, and articulate new, fresh and real positions, attitudes, concepts and reflections on global and individual life and reality.

Under this year's headword "Grounding", Wand 5 traces trends in film and media art as well as technological and social developments. Which roles inhere geographical and emotional places in today's media society?
How do digital technologies change identity models, attached to real spaces? Is there a corrective to the trends of mobilization and globalization? And does that mean we are returning to traditional value systems, implying expressions such as "home" and "root"? Highlights of the supporting programme include a video retrospective by Erwin Wurm, the program Machinima introducing computer movies, as well as the exhibition and video program by Annette Hollywood.

Besides numerous supporting programs, the international competitions for film / video and new media are focal points of the festival. Altogether prizes worth € 11,500 will be awarded.
