3.) SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The award focuses on supporting young, talented people involved in media art.
The age limit for submitting artists is 35 years.
The award will be given to project proposals, not to finished artworks.
Project proposals should relate to the theme of the award.
The main award winner's project proposal will be carried out at IAMAS during a special artist-in-residence period provided by IAMAS.
We especially encourage submissions by artists from developing countries.
4.) OBJECTIVES OF THE AWARD
In our increasingly diverse societies, it is essential to ensure harmonious interaction among people and groups with plural, varied and dynamic cultural identities as well as their willingness to live together" (UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, 2 November 2001)
But how does technology shape cultural identity and how has it changed the way we live together? Can digital technology promote dialogue between people from different cultures, creating a better, fairer and more peaceful world where cultural diversity and tolerance prevail? And how can an artist's vision and sensibility reflect and contribute to cultural diversity and digital pluralism?
These are the questions we want to address through the "Digital Pluralism - UNESCO Digital Arts Award 2003 at IAMAS". We encourage artists to reflect on the theme of cultural diversity, digital pluralism and social interaction, and to send project proposals for a media artwork that considers these topics and that can be realised during a 6-month artist-in-residence period at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS) in Gifu, Japan.

Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
(Boulder CO)
The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art is requesting mail art submissions for exhibit in February, 2004 on the theme: "Sense of Place".
As a "sense of place" is the key theme for the exhibition, artists are encouraged to respond by providing work that examine changing conceptions of place, borders and nationalism on a global scale since the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and the subsequent conflicts in the Near and Middle East; and how the spread of internet communications has altered perspectives on near and far.

All submissions must arrive through the mail
Each work should not exceed 20" and may be 3 dimensional
The artists' contact information must be included: name, address, email and, in the case of mixed media, all materials used.
Note: Not all submissions are guaranteed to be shown. Due to limitations on space, the show will be curated by the director with the support of other experts in the field of mail art. Works that are exhibited will be listed in the program catalogue and on the BMoCA web site. All submitting artists will be acknowledged. All pieces will become property of the museum unless the artist requests a return, in which case a SASE (or equivalent) is necessary.

Jim Mann
Peace Signs
Collecting anti-war posters and graphics from around the globe to present the best of them in a book entitled PEACE SIGNS.
Dear fellow peace activist/artist,
My name is Jim Mann, I am an American graphic designer living in Barcelona, Spain.
I am currently collecting anti-war posters and graphics from around the globe and will present the best of them in a book entitled PEACE SIGNS.
The Peace Signs project was initiated in response to the tremendous global backlash to the actions taken by George Bush and his administration following the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001, the pre-emptive strike on the "axis of evil" and countries coined "rogue nations." In cities around the world millions protested and carried with them not only their opinions but posters that graphically illustrated their outrage.
Posters have been carried in the marches, pasted tacked to the walls of cities and disseminated via the Internet.
Though posters have always been an important part of war propaganda, it wasn 't until the Vietnam War that they were used to convey anti-war messages and not since then have we seen such an overwhelming response from the creative community.
This project aims to bring as many posters together as possible from around the world in order to keep an archive for future generations documenting the creative, satirical and thought-provoking posters carried by those who voiced their opposition to the pre-emptive war against Iraq during the spring of 2003.
The final product, Peace Signs, will be a comprehensive large format graphic art book with over 200 original illustrations from over 20 countries and in over 6 languages. Even if the book is published after the war ends, the messages from these posters will live on into history, and that is one of the goals of producing this book.
Don't pass up this opportunity to present your artwork or to promote your organization.
Names of artists and organizations will be credited appropriately.
A portion of the Profits from the sale of the book will go to selected charities and non-profit organizations.
All images in the book will be copyright free and available for individual use by the purchaser of the book to use only in a not for profit manner.
Submissions can be in the form of printed paper or on CD-ROM, 100mb zip disk or floppy diskette.
