Artists Working in Ceramics
Raphael Founder's Prize in Ceramics, Society for Contemporary Craft
(Pittsburgh PA)
Society for Contemporary Craft (SCC) is accepting applications for the 2003 Elizabeth Rockwell Raphael Founder’s Prize in Ceramics. This biennial award began in 1997 in honor of SCC’s founder Elizabeth Rockwell Raphael and the organization’s 25th anniversary and is selected by medium on the basis of an entry that addresses the theme of “transformation.”
The $5,000 purchase award, exhibition, and video of the artist will be awarded for a work created between September 2002 and September 2003. The 2003 competition is open to national and international artists working in ceramics. Emerging artists are especially encouraged to apply. Jurying will take place in two phases: from the initial pool of slide submissions, a group of finalists will be invited to submit a work on the theme of “transformation” for the final jurying and possible inclusion in the Raphael Prize exhibition. The jurors this year are Jimmy Clark, Director Emeritus of The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA and Thomas Piche, Jr., Senior Curator of Everson Museum in Syracuse, New York. The 2003 Elizabeth R. Rockwell Founder’s Prizewinners will be notified on October 10, 2003 and the exhibition will open November 14, 2003.
